Bruce and I headed in the direction of Yellowstone from Montana by way of Rt. 212 South, cutting through the Beartooth Pass where the road through the mountains is narrow and winds through a series of switchbacks. The view is absolutely breathtaking.

In the photo above I'm standing at the very top of the pass where there are several crystal blue lakes, and numerous Hawks circling the sky.

To the left is a photo of the  Beartooth, for which the Mountain was named.

Though not practical for our horses, we both loved this old style of fencing.

                    SILVER GATE, MONTANA

Bruce and I rented a little cabin in the town of Silver Gate. We took a walk into the woodlands, stopping beside the waterfall to the left.

We had been warned that this was bear country, and that a grizzly bear had been sighted the night before. We were advised to make noise while we were hiking.
Later that evening we drove into Yellowstone, parked the car and listened to the howling and barking of the Coyotes.

  YELLOWSTONE

Soda Butte.

I recall the story that our friend Will had told us of his "Close Encounter" at Soda Butte. While he had been walking around the path that circles the Butte he noticed a fresh plop of dung. He was wondering how fresh it was when he looked up to find a big old Bull standing right in front of him.

I laughed when he told me the story, but I soon learned just how intimidating these massive creatures can be when you are up close to them. Especially the Bulls.
