GYPSY HAVEN'S
FOUNDATION

Gypsy Haven was founded in 1988 with the purchase of our first broodmare, Casland O Suzzanah "Gypsy," but it wasn’t until 1999 and the building of the new barn that we had the facilities to move our stallion Shadow to a permanent home, and to begin our breeding and foaling operation here at Gypsy Haven.

Having received a certificate from Cecil County Community College in BREEDING and FOALING, HORSE MANAGEMENT, and EQUINE HEALTH CARE, I am now coming into my 16th year as an Equine Midwife for a local thoroughbred farm. I have also completed my Certificate as a Veterinarian Assistant.

Here at Gypsy Haven I have personally delivered each of our foals. From the moment of birth, each one is imprinted, then handled daily until the end result is a gentle and trusting companion. We are a small operation with only a handful of broodmares, of which we only breed a maximum of one or two mares yearly in order to insure that each foal gets the daily attention that is required to produce an all around family horse with a sweet disposition and a kind heart. The true Classic Morgan.

Here at Gypsy Haven, before our mares are considered as a breeding prospect, she is given a physical exam from my veterinarian. If she passes with flying colors, she is then bred, and from there she is placed on a pre-natal schedule requiring all the necessary vaccinations, and care that is available in order to ensure a safe delivery and healthy foal.

Upon delivery, each foal is given a physical exam, and for the first three days, both mare and foal are watched around the clock for any possible signs of complication. Each foal is placed on a de-worming schedule, and at six months old they begin to receive their first series of vaccinations including Botulism, 5-Way, Rabies and West Nile. When a foal is purchased from Gypsy Haven Morgans, I can assure the buyer that every possible means has been taken in order to produce a healthy, happy companion. Therefore, when a person comes to Gypsy Haven wishing to purchase a foal, we can not guaranteed that the sale will be finalized. With so much care and devotion given to our babies, we do not let them go so readily without first considering their prospective owners as well as their facilities. The last thing that we wish, would be to place one of our foals in an environment that is not suitable. Nor a relationship that is not compatible.
