IMPEYAN PHEASANTS
The Himalayan Monal Pheasant

"Lucius"
September, 2009
Lucius is a two year old male Impeyan. He was purchased in June of 2009 from Clint Walker of Barclay, Md.

The Impeyan's natural habitat ranges from the Himalayas to Pakistan, Eastern Afghanistan, India, Nepal, southern Tibet and western China.

Though they are very hardy in the winter and enjoy foraging for food in the snow, Impeyan Pheasants do not tolerate extreme heat. However, they will do very well in the summer in a large aviary that is adequately shaded. Because theses birds are notorious diggers, they are more suited to a dry sandy soil.

The Impeyan is a gentle bird, easily tamed, and much less flightier than other species of Pheasants.
