MY EXPERIENCE
|
|
|
| My experience in
the Equine World began when I purchased my first horse in 1982, a large
pony named Bonnie. As my confidence grew, and I began taking an interest
in jumping, I purchased from my friend Kay, a Quarter Horse named
Tabagie who soon became the love of my life in the Equine world. After
sharing seventeen wonderful years, Tabagie passed away in 1999 at the
age of thirty.
Having completed several courses at Cecil Community College, including Horse Management, Equine Health Care, and Practical Breeding, in 1987 I ventured into the world of horse breeding and purchased my first Morgan mare, Casland O Suzannah. In the spring of 1992 I began working at Thornmar, a thoroughbred breeding farm in Chestertown, where I managed the back barn and handled the mares for teasing and breeding. That winter I began my first year as an Equine Mid-wife - delivering foals and seeing to the care of both the moms and babies. After fifteen years, I have delivered hundreds of foals, and each one is just as precious and miraculous as the last. In the fall of 2001, I returned to school at Chesapeake College and finished my degree as Veterinary Assistant, and the following spring I began working part time for an Equine Veterinarian, Dr. Susan Mende in Centreville. I have also attended several Seminars on horse behavior, including a one day clinic with Gwaini Pony Boy.
